Teach on your terms

Teach online and get paid, or share what you love for free

Anyone with knowledge to share can teach on 8Billionminds: a teacher, an expert, or someone who simply loves the subject. You choose what you teach and who you teach, and every lesson is live, one-to-one and led by real people.

Why teach on 8Billionminds

What you can teach

If someone wants to learn it, you can teach it. Subjects we suggest to learners include A-level Physics, Philosophy, Comedy theatre, English, Spanish, Ancient history and Guitar. Languages, exam help, music, coding, hobbies and life skills all have a place here.

You can offer each subject as a paid lesson, as a free community lesson, or both.

How it works for teachers

  1. Create a free account and choose that you would like to teach for money, or share for free.
  2. Add your subjects. For each one, choose your level of teaching and, for paid lessons, your price.
  3. Connect Stripe. Before you can offer paid lessons, you set up a Stripe account and complete its verification steps. This usually means confirming your identity, address and bank details.
  4. Accept lesson requests from learners who find you on Explore.
  5. Teach in the virtual classroom. Please wait there for at least 30 minutes if a student has not yet arrived.
  6. Get paid after the review period. The student has 3 days after the lesson to report a problem. If there is none, we release your payment.

Getting paid

All payments go through Stripe. Students pay when they book, and we hold the payment until 3 days after the lesson. We then release it to your Stripe account, and Stripe pays it into your bank account. How long that takes depends on your country, your bank and your Stripe payout schedule.

Stripe charges its own processing fees. They are included in the price the student pays, so the amount you receive can be a little lower than the lesson price. You can see the exact fees for each payment in your Stripe account. More answers for teachers are in our Help & FAQ.

Prefer to share for free?

You do not have to charge. Everyone who joins is part of our free learning community, where you can share what you know and learn what you want from other members, all without money. Community lessons do not need a Stripe account. Find out how free community lessons work.

Questions

Do I need a teaching qualification?

8Billionminds welcomes teachers, experts and people who simply love their subject. Learners can see the subjects you teach and your level on your profile, and they choose who to learn from.

To offer paid lessons you do need a verified Stripe account, because Stripe has to confirm who you are before it can send you money.

How much should I charge?

It is up to you. You set the price for each subject you offer as a paid lesson, and learners can filter teachers by price. You can also offer a subject as a free community lesson.

When do I get paid?

We release your payment to your Stripe account 3 days after the lesson, as long as no dispute has been raised. Stripe then pays the money into your bank account, and the timing depends on your country, bank and payout schedule.

What if a student does not turn up?

Wait in the virtual classroom for at least 30 minutes. If the student does not appear within 30 minutes of the scheduled start, the lesson is considered finished and you will still be paid. Make a note of what happened and tell us from the disputes page if you need to.

Does 8Billionminds take a fee from my lessons?

Any contribution to 8Billionminds is completely voluntary. Students choose whether and how much to add when they pay for a lesson. Stripe's own processing fees are separate, and are included in the price the student pays.
